Energy Federation, Inc. believes it is essential to encourage people to use our planet’s limited energy and water resources wisely. Energy Federation, Inc. (EFI) was incorporated in 1982 in Massachusetts as a 501c (4) non-profit energy efficiency organization to provide quality affordable conservation products to the public and assisting them in using energy resources efficiently. Recognizing that diversity in business provides ever-increasing value to the economy, EFI’s Board of Directors is comprised of over 51% women and minorities, with one-third of EFI’s senior managers being women. In 2016, EFI received formal certification as a woman non-profit organization with the Supplier Diversity Office of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. EFI has offices in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, with over 130 experienced employees.
Over its history the organization has largely accomplished the goals reflected in our mission through the delivery of energy efficiency-related services for electric and gas utilities, and the sale and distribution of energy conservation-related products to homeowners, organizations, and companies, both directly and through innovative partnerships with vendors and clients. One of the first utility-sponsored energy efficient lighting programs in the county was developed by EFI in the mid-late 1980’s, and this tradition of innovation persists.
Since 1987 EFI has administered rebate programs, mail order product catalogs, online store fronts, and other energy focused incentive programs for more than sixty utilities and energy efficiency program providers in thirty-eight states. EFI’s first e-Commerce site was deployed in 1999, when the Internet was still young. Today EFI has processed incentives for more than 200 million distinct energy efficient products and measures, including efficient lighting, appliances, high efficiency HVAC equipment, smart power strips, insulation and air sealing, solar photovoltaic and wind systems, issuing over $900 million dollars of incentives on behalf of the nation’s electric and gas utilities. Through e-Commerce and kit programs, and mobile-optimized platforms, EFI has shipped millions of products delivered directly to people’s homes and businesses.
EFI has long-standing relationships with most of the major energy-efficient lighting, thermostat, air sealing, and ventilation equipment manufacturers, being a stocking distributor for all these lines, many of which EFI has represented for over 30 years. Beyond utility companies, EFI serves energy service companies, tradespeople, government agencies, property management companies, and institutional end-users in every state. With over 2,000 items and $10 million worth of inventory in EFI’s strategically located fulfillment facilities, orders are able to ship quickly to any location throughout the United States.
In 2009, in furtherance of our mission, and to encourage the sustainable use of our planet’s limited energy and water resources, EFI established a grant program self-funded through net revenue. EFI sets aside a percentage of earnings to support and encourage the work of non-profit organizations and educational institutions in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and resource conservation. To date EFI has donated over $390,000 in support of this work.
Most recently, in 2015, EFI developed a comprehensive sustainability plan reflecting a culture that emphasizes sustainability practices and green behavior. We have an active and engaged sustainability committee comprised of volunteer employees, with internal targets to reduce the organization’s own carbon footprint, as well as increase the positive impact of our work through the services delivered and products shipped. In recognition of the accelerated shift to online commerce, EFI has shifted substantial investments into systems and practices that allow the organization to keep pace with current standards, allowing customers and clients to feel confident that transactions with EFI are secure.
Today, while our products and services have always focused on supporting the work of our customers, EFI is more committed than ever before to advancing the concept of sustainability, benefitting our customers, our clients, the economy, and the environment.
